Woman assaulted in Valley Ridge

A woman is recovering after been robbed and assaulted in the northwest community of Valley Ridge.

The attack happened around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say a man entered a business in the area and robbed the victim at knifepoint. The woman was then taken into a remote treed area nearby where she was sexually assaulted.

The victim was able to convince the man to let her go. “On her behalf, it was a great move. She was able to talk herself out of any further assault taking place and talked the guy into letting her go, which he did,” says Ssgt. Chris Fileccia from the Calgary Police Service.

A passerby then followed the man while the victim called for help. Police were able to find the attacker and he was arrested.

Marcel Parent, 30, faces a number of charges including weapon possession, sexual assault and unlawful confinement.

Parent was the subject of a high-risk offender alert nearly two years ago after serving time for sex assault and weapons possession.

CTV Calgary News Reported - (Jan 15th 2008)

Police say they are looking for a possible child predator.

On Monday, a 12-year-old girl was walking on Templehill Road N.E. at around 12 p.m. when police say she noticed a man following her.

The girl ran home but about an hour later noticed the same man following her. She tried to get help from two nearby homes, but there wasn't anyone at home at the time.

The man caught up with her and grabbed her hair and covered her mouth.

The girl managed to get away and ran to a nearby school where she was able to get help.

Police are searching for the suspect in, and around, the community.

The Calgary Public School Board is now urging all parents to talk to their children about staying safe.

“The principal wrote a letter to all parents. They went home yesterday informing parents to talk to their children about safety, procedures about being safe in, and around, the community,” says Ted Flitton from the CBE.

Police are describing the suspect as a white man, between 20 and 26-years-old, with a medium build, reddish hair, and a short red beard. He was wearing a brown baseball cap with the words AC/DC, a black hoodie, blue jeans, white runners, a gold ring, and reflective-lens sunglasses.

Investigators are also looking for a purple or red sedan, possibly a four -door Honda Civic, with tinted windows and a back fin. This vehicle has a smashed front headlight and a large scratch on one of the doors.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Man stabbed and robbed likely a random attack

A man in his 50's is recovering in Foothills Hospital after he was stabbed and robbed Monday night.

It happened just after 8:30 in the southeast community of Sundance near a residential neighbourhood.

Calgary EMS say they picked up the man on Sun Harbour Crescent.

The victim was stabbed in the thigh and stomach but he is expected to fully recover.

Investigators believe this attack may have been random, and they’re also looking into whether this attack is related to at least one other attempted robbery in the same vicinity Monday night.
